arrested in a drainage ditch by Yuba County sheriff's
deputies following a short chase, Sheriff Virginia Black
said Tuesday.
The suspects were armed with a loaded 12-gauge
shotgun They tied up the victim with duct tape, the
sheriff said. The suspects ransacked the house looking
for money, Black said. Deputies arrived just as they
climbed into a 1984 Datsun Sentra and tried to flee.
The driver, Christopher Ray Woods, a transient, sped
from the driveway, scraping and damaging the bottom
of the car on the pavement. Woods drove the damaged
vehicle nearly a half-mile at a top speed of 15 mph
before he turned into a ditch at Lindhurst Avenue and
Erle Road and jumped from the car, Black said. A
police dog (K9 Rory) was used to apprehend Woods,
who suffered a puncture wound to his arm. He was
treated at Rideout Memorial Hospital and released to
deputies.
Inside the car, deputies recovered a loaded shotgun
under a seat, cash and frozen meat taken from the
residence, as well as two masks. The three suspects
were arrested on suspicion of robbery, burglary, false
imprisonment, and assault with a firearm.
Bail for each was set at $100,000.
MAXWELL- A Williams man was taken into custody
Monday after he tried to resist arrest near Maxwell. A
Colusa County Deputy was advised that a suspect with
two active warrants was driving in a vehicle in the
Maxwell area. Deputy Zach Lopeteguy spotted the
vehicle and made a traffic stop on it. Lopeteguy
contacted the suspect later identified as Clyde Baker III,
near the Coulsa/Glenn Canal on Maxwell Sites Rd.
According to the arrest report, Baker became combative
when Lopeteguy tried to place him under arrest. The
Deputy was forced to use OC spray and his baton to
momentarily bring Baker to the ground. Baker then
returned to his feet and fled the area. Because there was
a second suspect in the vehicle Lopeteguy did not give
chase and requested back up. In searching the area
Lopeteguy found a knife in the area he was struggling
with Baker. Lt. Doug Turner of the Colusa County
Sheriff's Department said it was unknown if the suspect
tried to use the knife on the Deputy, or if he had
dropped it when he tried to flee.
The Williams Police Department, Colusa County
Sheriff's Department, and the Williams Area California
Highway Patrol responded as back up. The perimeter
was sealed off and the County Aerial Squadron plane as
well as one CHP plane were launched for the search,
however, the search was unsuccessful.
Off-Duty Sutter County Sheriff's Deputy Mike
Gwinnup, a member of the canine unit was in the area
and his assistance was requested. The dog located Baker
hiding in an onion field and Baker was taken into
custody. The suspect, suffering from some exposure due
to high temperatures on Monday, was taken to the
Colusa Regional Medical Center where he was observed
overnight before being transported to the Colusa County
Jail where he was booked.

appear for driving on a suspended license and failure to
appear for carrying a stolen concealed weapon with a
prior. As a result from Modays incident, Baker was
